Idris Elba Wants Cyberpunk Live-Action with Keanu
Idris Elba envisions a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film with himself and Keanu Reeves
Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, recently expressed his strong desire for a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action adaptation featuring himself and Keanu Reeves. In a ScreenRant interview promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (where he and Reeves share the screen), Elba enthusiastically stated that a live-action Cyberpunk film starring both of them would be incredible. He described the potential pairing of their characters as "Whoa."
Elba's enthusiasm stems from his previous collaboration with Reeves, who portrayed the iconic Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077. Elba himself played Solomon Reed, the seasoned FIA agent, in the game's 2023 expansion, Phantom Liberty.
This isn't just wishful thinking; Variety reported in October 2023 that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is underway, with CD Projekt Red partnering with Anonymous Content. While updates have been scarce since the announcement, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the live-action The Witcher series suggests a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action adaptation is a strong possibility.
