Firaxis will change Civilization 7 after a barrage of criticism
Following a less-than-stellar launch, the developers of Civilization VII are committed to significant improvements. Firaxis Games has acknowledged player feedback concerning interface usability and gameplay, and is actively addressing these concerns.
Currently, the game holds a 47% positive rating on Steam. Criticisms aren't aimed at core mechanics, but rather at a simplified interface, missing features, and a perceived lack of content. Firaxis has prioritized interface enhancements, focusing on improved map readability, refined menus, and a more intuitive user experience.
Planned additions include:
- Multiplayer team functionality.
- New map types.
- Customization options (renaming religions and cities).
A balance patch and further improvements (Update 1.1.0) are slated for release in March. The full release of Civilization VII is scheduled for February 11th.
Many reviewers feel the game launched prematurely and requires substantial further development. The $70 price point has been heavily criticized, with players arguing it doesn't reflect the game's current state. The community hopes Firaxis will carefully consider player feedback and deliver substantial updates to restore the game to the high standards expected of the Civilization franchise. The hope is that Civilization VII will eventually live up to the series' legacy of quality and depth, but significant improvements are needed.
