In an insightful interview with Wccftech, the developers at Eclipse Glow Games revealed the intriguing concept behind Tides of Annihilation and their strategic focus on Western audiences. Dive deeper to discover what's in store for this exciting new title.

Tides of Annihilation Aims For A Western Audience

The Central Concept Of Arthurian Myths And Knights

During Gamescom 2024, Eclipse Glow Games, a China-based studio, shared with Wccftech their vision for Tides of Annihilation. Backed by Tencent, the game diverges from the Eastern-focused Black Myth: Wukong, aiming instead to captivate Western players. The producer explained, "This game and Black Myth: Wukong are two projects invested in by Tencent, and there were different expectations set on these two projects. Black Myth: Wukong targeted the Chinese market, but for this project, we targeted a Western audience, so we chose the Arthurian legends." This led to the central theme revolving around King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

Set in a post-apocalyptic modern-day London, Tides of Annihilation portrays a city devastated by an Outworld invasion, with Gwendolyn emerging as the last human survivor. The game blends modern settings with fantasy elements drawn directly from Arthurian myths.

Devil May Cry-inspired Combat And Over 30 Bosses

Fans of action-RPGs will notice the combat in Tides of Annihilation bears a striking resemblance to Devil May Cry. The developers confirmed this influence, noting, "It's definitely more like Devil May Cry" but with the added benefit of adjustable difficulty levels. This design choice broadens the game's appeal, offering simpler controls for less hardcore players.

Players can customize their combat style with four different weapons and over ten Knights to choose as companions. Gwendolyn, the protagonist, can summon the Knights of the Round Table to aid her in navigating the ruins of London and uncovering the mystery behind the invasion. With more than 30 uniquely challenging bosses, players are in for an engaging experience. "Players will have to prepare for very challenging boss fights," the developers emphasized.

Plans Of Creating An Anthology

Looking to the future, Eclipse Glow Games expressed interest in expanding Tides of Annihilation into an anthology series. They aim to explore different settings and mythologies, each potentially featuring a new protagonist. "But we would still want to use the Outworld invasion concept that we're using for Tides of Annihilation," they mentioned, hinting at a unifying theme for the potential series. The success of the initial release is crucial for realizing these ambitious plans.

Currently in its beta phase, Tides of Annihilation is slated for a tentative 2026 release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players will join Gwendolyn on her quest to save London and the mystical realm of Avalon, which seems to be merging with the real world.
