Digital Revolution of Devarattam

Welcome to the "Digital Revolution of Devarattam" app, a tribute to the vibrant folk dance of Tamil Nadu known as Devarattam. This project is dedicated to spreading awareness about this ancient dance form and celebrating its esteemed awardees. The app is a heartfelt dedication to legends in the field, including the retired teacher Mr. M Kumararaman, and Kalaimani awardees Mr. M Kannan Kumar and Mr. K Nellai Manikandan from Zamin Kodangipatti, who have been honored with the prestigious Kalaimamani, Kalaimani, and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar awards, respectively. Additionally, this app honors my guru, Mr. E Rajakamulu, and other lovable legends of Devarattam.

Devarattam, a traditional dance, has been gracefully performed by the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community both in ancient times and today. This dance form is characterized by its intricate steps, comprising a basic set of 32 steps, with additional steps ranging up to 72, which are variations of the basic ones. The dancers, adorned with Salangai on each leg, hold a kerchief in each hand and perform to the rhythm of the Deva Thunthumi, a traditional musical instrument.

Through this app, we aim to bring the rich heritage of Devarattam to a broader audience, celebrating its cultural significance and the individuals who have dedicated their lives to its preservation and performance. Join us in this digital journey to explore and appreciate the beauty of Devarattam.
