Dark and Darker Mobile Rebrands as Abyss of Dungeons Amid Legal Controversy

Krafton has proceeded with renaming Dark and Darker Mobile to Abyss of Dungeons, marking a clear attempt to distance itself from Ironmace Studios' legal disputes with Nexon. Beyond this rebranding and potential removal of Dark and Darker-specific elements, the game appears largely unchanged.

The Backstory Behind the Rebrand

Ironmace Studios remains locked in an unresolved legal battle with Nexon over allegations of stolen trade secrets. Nexon alleges former employees improperly used company assets and concepts when developing Dark and Darker after leaving Nexon.

As we reported earlier this year, rumors suggested Krafton might rename Dark and Darker Mobile to separate itself from this controversy. The switch to Abyss of Dungeons confirms these speculations.

Gameplay Remains Unaffected

Fortunately for players, this rebrand doesn't impact core gameplay mechanics. Dark and Darker Mobile had already distinguished itself from its PC counterpart through significant changes like:

  • A new third-person perspective
  • Various mobile-friendly adaptations

While the name changes, fans can expect the same gameplay experience originally promised.

Mixed Reactions From the Community

This development may disappoint Ironmace supporters, but many hope:

  • The legal issues resolve favorably
  • Abyss of Dungeons can coexist with Dark and Darker
  • The mobile version succeeds despite the controversy

The game will begin soft launch testing on June 11th in Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, and Mexico.
