Alcyone: The Last City Launches as Dystopian Sci-Fi Novel

Alcyone: The Last City is now available on Android, Windows, macOS, Linux/SteamOS, and iOS. Created and published by Joshua Meadows, the project originally launched as a Kickstarter campaign in May 2017. After years of development and refinement, the game has officially released.
What’s the Story?
The game is set in a grim, dystopian future where The City remains as the last bastion after the collapse of the universe. Your choices directly influence the narrative, and each decision enriches your personal journey. There are no restarts or redos—only consequences and the challenge of living with them.
You assume the role of a “rebirth”—a character who has previously died and been resurrected in a cloned body with restored memories. You can choose to belong to the ruling elite or to scrape by as an ordinary survivor.
The City is a ruthless environment, governed by six Ruling Houses that enforce a rigid class hierarchy. The affluent enjoy lives of luxury while the impoverished struggle to survive. Tensions run high, and the city teeters on the brink of chaos.
This world is the result of catastrophic scientific experiments from the past. Attempts to manipulate hyperspace and achieve faster-than-light travel backfired, devastating humanity. Now, only Alcyone: The Last City endues, barely holding on.
What Does Alcyone: The Last City Look Like?
The game features crisp, hand-drawn digital artwork that complements its gritty, fractured atmosphere. With nearly 250,000 words of branching narrative, the story evolves based on your decisions. Take a look at Alcyone: The Last City in the video below.
One standout feature is the developers’ commitment to accessibility and inclusion. The game offers high-contrast and colorblind-aware palettes, clearly labeled visual elements, dyslexia-friendly fonts, and full support for screen readers such as VoiceOver.
Players can experience seven core endings and explore five romance paths, including aromantic options. A single purchase grants cross-platform access, so there’s no need to buy separate versions for different devices. Visit the game’s official website for more details.
