Battlefield Release Window "Clearer Than It Was Before"

EA reaffirmed Battlefield's launch timeline after learning of GTA 6's postponement. During their May 6 earnings call, CEO Andrew Wilson announced Battlefield's March 2026 release date, expressing greater confidence following Rockstar's schedule change.
When discussing major title releases impacting competitors, Wilson noted most studios can't easily advance their schedules to avoid GTA 6. EA sees advantage in Battlefield now launching two months ahead of Rockstar's blockbuster.

Industry professionals have carefully planned around GTA 6 since its initial trailer revealed. While many are adjusting strategies, Battlefield's team feels their positioning remains ideal.
Wilson explained: "We've consistently designed Battlefield's launch window to maximize its potential. We wouldn't compromise the franchise's value or player experience by rushing to beat competitors."
Battlefield will launch across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in March 2026.
Death Stranding 2 Maintains Original Release Plans

Hideo Kojima acknowledged many studios would adjust schedules for GTA 6, but confirmed Death Stranding 2 will keep its planned 2026 release, potentially targeting September.
During a Koji Pro broadcast, Kojima compared the situation to movie studios avoiding major franchise releases. While understanding why competitors might shift, his team remains committed to their development timeline.
With Death Stranding 2 reportedly 95% complete, the studio plans to maintain its scheduled premiere regardless of market conditions.
Industry Reactions Vary

The Game Business Show reported numerous studios planning strategic adjustments around GTA 6's launch window. One anonymous executive described coordinated efforts to avoid direct competition, anticipating concentrated game releases just before or after Rockstar's title.
Meanwhile, Devolver Digital announced plans to intentionally compete by releasing a game alongside GTA 6. The publisher hasn't specified which title will challenge Rockstar's juggernaut - possibilities include sequels to Cult of the Lamb or Inscription, or potentially a new IP.
GTA 6's scheduling changes continue affecting industry plans as studios determine whether to avoid or confront the anticipated blockbuster. The game launches May 26, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
