Anbernic Halts U.S. Shipments Due to Tariff Issues

Retro handheld console maker Anbernic has paused all orders from the United States.

As reported by The Verge, the company cited "shifts in U.S. tariff policies" as the reason, advising gamers to "prioritize items shipped from our U.S. warehouse, which are currently exempt from import duties and can be bought with confidence." Any orders requiring shipment from China will remain unprocessed.

Anbernic is widely recognized for its affordable Chinese Game Boy-style clones, typically dropshipping directly from China upon release before stocking inventory in American warehouses.

While Anbernic's website allows shoppers to select shipping origins between the U.S. and China, not every product ships domestically. Consequently, certain devices like the Anbernic RG CubeXX and the RG 406H will no longer be accessible to buyers in America.

The Trump administration has imposed tariffs of up to 145% on Chinese imports, with warnings that duties on specific goods, such as electric vehicles, could climb to 245% when combined with existing levies. Although some supply chain partners may absorb these costs, expenses are frequently passed down to consumers. Gamers are already feeling the impact through rising prices for tech and gaming products, including Nintendo Switch 2 peripherals and gaming laptops.

Anbernic stated it is "working to find a suitable solution" for customers facing customs fees "during this transitional period."

PlayNintendo officially revealed the Switch 2 during a 60-minute Nintendo Direct earlier this month. Although U.S. pre-orders were initially scheduled for early April, tariff uncertainty in both the U.S. and Canada prompted Nintendo to push back the pre-order launch to April 24. During this delay, Nintendo maintained the $449.99 price point for the Switch 2 console and games but increased prices on most Switch 2 accessories.
