How to Beat and Capture Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds
Mastering the Chatacabra: A Guide to Conquest and Capture in Monster Hunter Wilds
This guide provides strategies for defeating or capturing the Chatacabra, an early-game foe in Monster Hunter Wilds. This amphibian adversary presents a great opportunity to hone your hunting skills.
How to Defeat the Chatacabra
Weaknesses: Ice, Thunder Resistances: None Immunities: Sonic Bomb
The Chatacabra, a relatively small frog-like monster, primarily utilizes close-range tongue attacks. While it can charge at you from a distance, its attacks are generally predictable. Any weapon type is viable, though the Bow and Charge Blade might be slightly less efficient due to their multi-hit nature being less effective against smaller targets.
The Chatacabra's tongue-based attacks make the front of the creature the most dangerous position. Besides its licking attack, it slams its front limbs into the ground, always preceded by a telltale rearing motion. The only significant attack from a distance involves raising its head and sweeping its tongue behind it.
The optimal strategy involves positioning yourself to the sides of the Chatacabra. Dodge or block its slam attacks, and exploit its elemental weaknesses (Ice and Thunder) for a swift victory.
How to Capture the Chatacabra
Capturing monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds follows a consistent pattern. The Chatacabra's inability to fly simplifies the process. Carry a Shock Trap or Pitfall Trap, and at least two Tranquilizer Bombs. However, bringing one of each trap type and a full eight Tranquilizer Bombs is recommended to account for unforeseen circumstances.
Battle the Chatacabra until its health is critically low, indicated by a skull icon on the mini-map. This signifies its attempt to escape. Follow it, set your trap, and lure the Chatacabra into it. Once trapped, use two Tranquilizer Bombs to subdue it, completing the capture.
