US Blocks Marvel Snap Due to TikTok Restrictions
Second Dinner, a California-based studio, developed the popular game Marvel Snap, which is published by Nuverse, a subsidiary of ByteDance. Unfortunately, due to recent events, Marvel Snap, along with other apps such as CapCut and Lemon8, faced a ban. On January 18, 2025, the game's availability was abruptly discontinued on iOS and Android platforms, leaving many players frustrated and dealing with authorization issues. However, PC players can still access the game via Steam. The developers at Second Dinner expressed their surprise at the incident and are actively working to bring the game back online. A statement from Platform X reassures players, stating:
"Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress."
One of the most frustrating aspects for players was the lack of prior warning. Many continued to invest in in-game purchases without knowing about the impending lockout. While Marvel Snap was affected, not all ByteDance apps faced the same fate. For example, games like Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain playable.
In other news, Marvel Snap recently introduced Moonstone, an ongoing card that has the potential to shake up the meta. Moonstone, with her 4/6 stats, is part of the Ongoing archetype, which is currently in high demand. Her unique ability allows her to copy the ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-cost cards in her lane. With the significant number of low-cost Ongoing cards already available in the game, such as Ant-Man and U.S. Agent, Moonstone stands out because she can acquire these effects at no additional cost, rapidly boosting her power and impact on the game.
