Broken Sword: Reforged Brings Back the Genre-Defining Adventure

Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars: Reforged is now available. If you remember the original 1996 release or the 2009 Director’s Cut, you already know the basics. Keep reading to see what’s new in this updated version.
Broken Sword has been Reforged
Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars: Reforged removes the additional chapters added in the Director’s Cut. The extra Nico storylines, designed to give her more agency, have been cut. She’s once again a supporting character who appears occasionally with key items.
This version centers on a high-definition remaster of the original tale, featuring full HD and 4K visuals with improved audio. It’s optimized for Chromebooks with full mouse and keyboard support, and also works with external controllers.
Broken Sword: Reforged runs completely offline and includes Google Play Cloud Save. There are no ads or in-app purchases—just a single upfront fee. Currently, it’s launching at a 30% discount, priced at $6.99 instead of the regular $9.99.
Played the Original?
If not, here’s the story. It begins in Paris, where American tourist George Stobbart witnesses a bombing at a café. A clown carrying a briefcase sets off a chain of events.
These events lead George—and later, French journalist Nico Collard—on a journey across Europe, uncovering deep conspiracies tied to the Knights Templar.
At its heart, the game still uses classic point-and-click mechanics. You explore detailed locations, speak with eccentric characters, collect odd items, and use them in unexpected ways to solve puzzles.
Some puzzles are clever and rewarding; others may feel frustrating. Certain areas won’t unlock until you’ve explored other parts of the map first.
