Coppola's Megalopolis Spawns Graphic Novel Spin-off

Author : Dylan Update : Oct 14,2025

No 2024 film sparked as much debate as Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis. The ambitious, unconventional (and to some, perplexing) cinematic epic dominated conversations following its premiere at last year's Cannes Film Festival, becoming a lightning rod for both acclaim and criticism throughout the year. Now the visionary director is reimagining his story in another medium, with Megalopolis slated for release as a graphic novel.

This adaptation will be titled Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis: An Original Graphic Novel, with Abrams ComicArts publishing the book this October according to The Hollywood Reporter. The project is helmed by writer Chris Ryall, celebrated for his adaptations of works by Stephen King, Harlan Ellison, and Clive Barker. Illustrations will be handled by Jacob Phillips, known for Newburn and That Texas Blood.

"I wanted the graphic novel to exist as more than just a retelling of the film," Coppola explained in a statement. "By entrusting Chris Ryall and his creative team, I hoped this adaptation would develop its own identity while maintaining a creative kinship with the movie. What they've created with Jacob Phillips proves that artistic expression can't be confined - it finds new parallel forms to reach audiences."

The story follows an idealistic architect (Adam Driver) convinced of his destiny to construct a futuristic utopia. His vision clashes with a powerful mayor (Giancarlo Esposito) determined to preserve the status quo in this modern Roman fable about reshaping society in a decaying metropolis.

While not currently streaming, the film is available through digital rental and purchase platforms.
