Crash Bandicoot 5 Allegedly Canceled After Studio Went Indie

A potential Crash Bandicoot 5 may have been shelved, according to hints dropped by former Toys For Bob concept artist, Nicholas Kole. This revelation follows Kole's announcement regarding another canceled project, "Project Dragon," on X (formerly Twitter).

"Project Dragon" and the Unseen Crash 5

On July 12th, Kole's X post about "Project Dragon" (initially speculated to be Spyro-related, but later clarified as a new IP with Phoenix Labs) sparked discussion. He added a cryptic comment hinting at a canceled Crash Bandicoot 5: "It is not Spyro, but some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was and it’s gonna break hearts," he stated. This prediction proved accurate, as fans reacted with significant disappointment.

Crash Bandicoot 5 Allegedly Canceled After Studio Went Indie

The news comes after Toys For Bob's transition from Activision Blizzard to an independent studio earlier this year, coinciding with Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. While Toys For Bob is now collaborating with Microsoft Xbox for their upcoming debut title, details remain scarce.

The last mainline Crash Bandicoot game, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time (2020), achieved over five million sales. Subsequent releases included Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! (2021) and Crash Team Rumble (2023), the latter concluding its live service in March 2024.

With Toys For Bob's newfound independence, the future of Crash Bandicoot 5 remains uncertain. Only time will reveal if this potential title will ever be released, and whether fans will face a prolonged wait.
