Daredevil: Born Again's New Trailer Hints at an Unlikely Alliance

A new trailer for Marvel's Daredevil: Born Again, premiering March 4th on Disney+, reveals a surprising development: Daredevil and Kingpin, longtime adversaries, appear to be collaborating. This unexpected partnership stems from a shared threat: the artistically-inclined serial killer, Muse.

Who is Muse?

Muse, a relatively recent addition to Daredevil's rogue's gallery (created by Charles Soule and Ron Garney in 2016's Daredevil #11), is a chilling villain. He views murder as a sophisticated art form, as evidenced by his past crimes, including creating murals from the blood of victims and arranging corpses into elaborate displays. His unique ability to disrupt Daredevil's radar sense adds another layer to his danger.

Muse's initial conflict with Daredevil and Blindspot escalated when he blinded Blindspot. His capture ended with a self-inflicted injury, robbing himself of the ability to create art, only to later escape and continue his killing spree. His obsession with vigilantes, creating morbid tributes to figures like the Punisher, further complicates the situation. Ultimately, he met his demise in Daredevil #600 (2018). However, given the nature of the Marvel Universe, his return is anticipated.

Muse's Role in Daredevil: Born Again

The D23 and subsequent trailers confirm Muse's appearance in Daredevil: Born Again, sporting a costume strikingly similar to his comic book counterpart – a white mask and bodysuit with red streaks resembling blood. While the series shares its name with a classic Daredevil storyline, it draws inspiration from contemporary comics, particularly the works of Soule and Chip Zdarsky.

The series focuses on the ongoing rivalry between Murdock and Fisk, but introduces a new dynamic: a potential alliance. A diner scene depicts a tense meeting where Matt threatens Fisk, prompting Fisk's cryptic response about Murdock's "darker half," suggesting a significant new threat.

Is Muse that threat? Considering Fisk's mayoral ambitions (as seen in Echo's post-credits scene) and his anti-vigilante platform, Muse's actions directly oppose his agenda. Muse's glorification of vigilantes like the Punisher creates a common enemy for both Daredevil and Fisk. Daredevil seeks to stop a killer, while Fisk aims to eliminate a challenge to his authority. This forces an uneasy alliance, highlighting the complex moral landscape.

The series will also feature other vigilantes like the Punisher and White Tiger, likely caught in the crossfire of Fisk's crusade. Muse's artwork might even glorify these individuals, further escalating the conflict.

While the Daredevil/Fisk rivalry remains central, Muse emerges as the immediate threat, presenting Daredevil with perhaps his most formidable opponent yet. His unique abilities and relentless bloodlust necessitate an unlikely partnership with Mayor Fisk.
