Destiny 2's Year of Prophecy: Key Details for Guardians
Get ready, Guardians! Bungie has just unveiled an exciting roadmap for Destiny 2, packed with two new expansions and significant updates, all falling under the banner of the "Year of Prophecy." This year promises four major content releases, split between two paid expansions and two free updates, ensuring something for everyone in the Destiny community.
Kicking off the year is the "Rite of the Nine" update, which is now available to all players at no extra cost. This update offers a fresh perspective on dungeon diving, suitable for both veterans and newcomers. While the dungeons like Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep may be familiar, expect "unique twists" that bring new challenges and opportunities to reconnect with Orin and acquire refreshed dungeon weapons.
On July 15, the first paid expansion, "Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate," will launch, marking the beginning of a multiyear saga involving the enigmatic Nine. This expansion introduces a new destination, Kepler, inspired by the puzzle-solving and exploration elements of Destiny 2’s dungeons. Players will encounter new enemies, weapons, gear, and destination-specific abilities. Alongside this, new characters Lodi and Ikora will take center stage, deepening the narrative.
Also launching on July 15 are major core game innovations, including revamped armor and gear systems that enhance buildcrafting. A new activity selection screen, the Portal, will allow players to choose between Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, Crucible Ops, and the new Solo Ops, designed for solo players looking for short, self-contained gameplay sessions. With 50 new modifiers, players can customize their gameplay experience and chase specific rewards through curated activity rotations.

"Destiny 2: Renegades" draws inspiration from the Star Wars universe, merging Destiny’s unique storytelling and gameplay with iconic sci-fi elements.
These announcements come at a crucial time for Bungie, following significant layoffs in July 2024, which affected 220 staff members, and another round of 100 layoffs less than a year prior. Despite these challenges, Bungie remains committed to delivering high-quality content for Destiny 2 players.
In addition to Destiny 2, Bungie is also working on the Marathon reboot, which was revealed in May 2023. After getting a hands-on preview in its alpha state, IGN expressed optimism about the game's potential to satisfy the Bungie PvP itch, set to launch on PC and consoles in September.
