A Daily Grind: No-Hit Messmer Battles

Instead of passively awaiting the release of the co-op spin-off, Nightreign, chickensandwich420 embarked on a self-imposed challenge: defeating Messmer the Impaler daily on NG+7, using a different weapon each time and achieving a perfect no-hit run. This began on December 16, 2024. Initially considering a broader range of FromSoftware bosses, he opted for Messmer due to his demanding university schedule.

Messmer, the notoriously difficult second antagonist from Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, presents a significant hurdle. Players commonly report needing 30 to over 150 attempts to defeat him, even with optimal equipment. chickensandwich420's undertaking is truly remarkable.

However, the challenge has a built-in deadline: June 2025. If Nightreign doesn't release by then, he'll move on to other games. This ambitious goal translates to over 160 consecutive Messmer battles. At the time of writing, he's reached day 23.

Elden Ring: Nightreign, announced at The Game Awards 2024, is a standalone three-player co-op adventure set within the Elden Ring universe. While a 2025 release is anticipated, FromSoftware's track record suggests potential delays. The success of chickensandwich420's Messmer marathon hinges on Nightreign's timely arrival.
