Elden Ring: Day-One Patch Brings Key Changes Before Launch

Elden Ring Nightreign is just hours from release, and publisher Bandai Namco has detailed its day-one patch, which introduces key changes to the game.

Patch 1.01 is available now, according to Bandai Namco. The multiplayer spin-off goes live on May 29 or May 30, depending on your region. For specific timing, refer to the Elden Ring Nightreign global release schedule.

The patch improves playable character handling, makes balance tweaks, adjusts text descriptions, introduces new character scenarios, and expands the soundtrack. It also includes various bug fixes.

"This update introduces gameplay and stability refinements to deliver an optimal experience as you take your first steps into Limveld," Bandai Namco stated. To confirm you have the latest version at launch, check for 'Ver. 1.01' displayed in the bottom-right corner of the title screen.

In IGN's recent discussion with Elden Ring Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki, the lead developer explained the decision to focus on solo and trio play as the primary options. When asked why there's no dedicated mode for two players without a matchmade third, Ishizaki admitted it was an oversight.

"Simply put, we overlooked including a two-player-only option during development, and we sincerely apologize for that," Ishizaki said. "As mentioned previously, our goal was to create a three-player cooperative multiplayer game, balanced around that trio dynamic—that's the foundation of Nightreign.

"Of course, as a player myself, I understand the desire for solo play, which we considered from the beginning," Ishizaki continued. "We dedicated significant effort to crafting a satisfying solo experience within the constraints of the game's rules and systems. In prioritizing that, we unfortunately neglected the duo aspect, but it's something we're evaluating for potential post-launch support."

So if you plan to play with just one partner, prepare to welcome a random third player into your session. Who knows? You might be paired with someone highly skilled.
