Back to the Future Co-Creator's Blunt Response to Fans Wanting Fourth Film
Back to the Future co-creator Bob Gale recently delivered a blunt message to fans eagerly awaiting a revival of the iconic science fiction series: "F\*\*k you." In an interview with Yahoo, Gale, who collaborated with Robert Zemeckis on all three Back to the Future films, confirmed that there are no current plans for a canonical continuation of the beloved franchise.
"People always ask, 'When are you going to do Back to the Future 4,'" Gale recounted backstage at the Saturn Awards. "And we say, 'F\*\*k you.'" Despite the popularity of reboots and sequel projects in modern cinema, such as The Matrix Resurrections and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Back to the Future seems destined to stay rooted in its original timeline.
Released in 1985, the first film follows high schooler Marty McFly as he's accidentally transported back in time by eccentric scientist Doc Brown. Although it became a timeless classic, its sequels, released consecutively in 1989 and 1990, failed to resonate as strongly with audiences.
Despite the three-decade gap since the last installment, the franchise remains alive through various mediums, including a Broadway musical. Gale mentioned plans for a stage production with Royal Caribbean Cruises and hinted at assisting Michael J. Fox, who played Marty McFly, in writing a book about his experiences. Clearly, while the series may not be returning to the big screen anytime soon, its legacy continues to thrive in unexpected ways.
