Harrison Ford, the actor behind Indiana Jones, has remarked that Troy Baker's portrayal of the iconic character in the video game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle demonstrates that "you don't need artificial intelligence to capture my essence."

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Ford spoke about handing over the reins of Indy, expressing his great satisfaction with the performance delivered by Baker, known for his role in The Last of Us.

"You don’t need artificial intelligence to steal my soul," Ford stated. "With good ideas and genuine talent, you can achieve it for next to nothing. He did a brilliant job, and it didn’t require AI to make it happen."

The Great Circle emerged in December as an "authentic" though possibly non-canonical installment in the long-standing series, which saw its first new film in years with 2023's Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

While the film was poorly received, the game garnered praise, suggesting the franchise's creative team might favor this new direction instead of asking Ford to don the famous hat once more.

The legendary star of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and upcoming Marvel projects is among many artists criticizing the use of AI in film and media. Figures like Tim Burton have labeled AI-generated art "very disturbing," and Nicolas Cage has called it a "dead end."

Numerous voice actors have also voiced opposition, including Ned Luke from Grand Theft Auto 5, who challenged a chatbot using his voice. Similarly, Doug Cockle, voice actor for The Witcher, told IGN that while AI is "inevitable," it is also "dangerous," agreeing with Luke that such uses "effectively deprive voice actors of income."
