NieR: Automata - Guide to Acquiring Invaluable Beast Hide

NieR: Automata boasts a diverse arsenal of weapons, upgradeable multiple times to extend their usefulness throughout the game. This guide focuses on acquiring Beast Hides, a crucial crafting material not readily available.

Obtaining Beast Hides in NieR: Automata

Beast Hides are dropped by wildlife, specifically moose and boar. These creatures randomly appear in the game's ruined city and forest areas. They're easily identified on the mini-map by their white icons (unlike machines' black icons). However, unlike machines, wildlife doesn't respawn frequently, requiring a strategic approach.

Wildlife behavior depends on your level relative to theirs. Lower-level animals might flee, while higher-level ones may attack aggressively, even at a distance. They also possess substantial health, making early-game encounters challenging.

Animal Bait can help lure wildlife, simplifying the hunting process.

Respawn mechanics for wildlife mirror those of machines:

  • Fast traveling resets all enemies and wildlife.
  • Traveling a significant distance triggers respawns in previously visited areas.
  • Story progression can also cause respawns.

Efficient Beast Hide Farming

There's no dedicated farming method for Beast Hides. The most effective strategy is to eliminate all wildlife encountered while exploring the forest and city ruins. Beast Hides have a relatively high drop rate, ensuring you'll usually acquire enough without excessive grinding, especially if you avoid upgrading more weapons than you currently use.
