Nintendo Direct Unveils Square Enix RPG

Triangle Strategy Returns to Nintendo Switch eShop

RPG enthusiasts can celebrate! Triangle Strategy, the acclaimed Square Enix title, is back on the Nintendo Switch eShop after a temporary removal. This follows a recent acquisition of publishing rights by Square Enix from Nintendo, a move that may explain the brief delisting.

The return of Triangle Strategy allows Switch owners to once again purchase and download this popular tactical RPG. The game, praised for its revival of classic Square Enix gameplay, draws comparisons to franchises like Fire Emblem, emphasizing strategic unit placement and maximizing damage.

Square Enix's announcement on Twitter confirmed the game's reappearance after a four-day absence. While the reason for the initial delisting remains unconfirmed, speculation points to the aforementioned rights transfer from Nintendo to Square Enix.

This isn't the first time a Square Enix title has been temporarily removed from the eShop; Octopath Traveler experienced a similar, albeit longer, absence last year. However, Triangle Strategy's swift return is welcome news for fans.

The game's reappearance underscores the strong relationship between Square Enix and Nintendo. This collaboration is evident in previous releases, including the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series (initially a Switch exclusive) and the ongoing trend of Square Enix releasing console exclusives on Nintendo platforms, a tradition dating back to the original Final Fantasy on the NES. This continues with titles like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (currently PlayStation 5 exclusive) and Dragon Quest XI (initially a Switch exclusive).
