Preordering directly through Nintendo requires additional steps. Customers must register their interest on Nintendo's website, choosing between the standalone console or a Mario Kart World bundle. Invitations for purchase will be sent starting May 8, with a 72-hour window to complete transactions.

The Nintendo Store preorder program has specific eligibility requirements. It's only available to customers who've maintained a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online membership and logged at least 50 gameplay hours by April 2, 2025. Those who don't meet these criteria will need to purchase elsewhere.
