Power Rangers is reportedly gearing up for a fresh, live-action series on Disney+.

According to The Wrap, Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, the showrunners behind Percy Jackson and the Olympians, are in discussions to write, produce, and oversee the new Power Rangers series for Disney+ and 20th Century Television.

As reported, Hasbro — current owner of the Power Rangers franchise — aims to reimagine the iconic property for a new generation, while still honoring its legacy and core fanbase.

The original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers series was a cultural phenomenon during the ‘90s, capturing the imaginations of young viewers with its colorful team of teenage heroes and their giant robotic Zords — which could merge into one epic mega-Zord.

In 2018, Hasbro acquired the Power Rangers brand along with other assets from Saban Properties in a deal valued at $522 million. At the time, the company expressed strong confidence in the franchise’s future.

“We see significant opportunity for Power Rangers across our entire Brand Blueprint, including toys and games, consumer products, digital gaming, entertainment, and globally through our retail network,” said Brian Goldner, then-chairman and CEO of Hasbro.

This acquisition followed the underwhelming performance of the 2017 Power Rangers movie reboot, which attempted to launch a darker cinematic universe but failed to gain traction due to disappointing box office returns. Shortly after, Saban transferred the rights to Hasbro.

Beyond Power Rangers, Hasbro has several high-profile projects in development, including a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series titled The Forgotten Realms at Netflix, an animated Magic: The Gathering series also set for Netflix, and plans for a broader Magic: The Gathering cinematic universe.
