"Romeo Is A Dead Man" Release Delayed Amid Major Game Clash

It's been a while since we last heard from Goichi "Suda51" Suda and Grasshopper Manufacture, but they made a powerful return during last night's State of Play. The studio unveiled a spectacular trailer for their upcoming "ultra-violent" sci-fi adventure, Romeo Is a Dead Man.

The violence is so central that Grasshopper describes it as the game's "defining feature." Players can switch between a vast arsenal of weapons to "unleash wave after wave of gore, experiencing unparalleled levels of brutality and hyper-stimulating action."

"Right now, our development team is working at full capacity to finish the project. In the past, this would be the time when staff started bringing sleeping bags to pull all-nighters at the office. These days, however, we prioritize ensuring everyone gets proper rest and recovery time," explained Suda51.

"I'll never forget the chaotic frenzy of working through the night in our early days, even getting warning emails for excessive overtime—it really happened. The final stretch of game development feels a lot like the world of the film *Beautiful Dreamer*, reminiscent of the night before a major school festival. It's been ages; now I want to watch *Beautiful Dreamer* again. What, you don't know that movie? I guess many of you might be too young to remember it. It's probably available on a streaming service somewhere, so give it a watch sometime."

Romeo Is a Dead Man is an "ultra-violent science fiction" action game born from the collective creativity of Suda51's Grasshopper Manufacture. The protagonist, Romeo Stargazer—arguably one of the best character names ever—is an FBI Space-Time special agent hunting the universe's most-wanted fugitives. The game is slated for release on PC via Steam and Microsoft Store, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, but isn't expected until 2026. Why such a broad release window?

"Isn't the reason pretty obvious?" said Suda51, alluding to what can only be GTA 6. "That One Game announced its release date, right? Every publisher wants to steer clear of That One Game's launch. But what if we were bold and released on the same day...? No, just thinking about it is terrifying. Alright, see you later."

Sony spectacularly kicked off the summer game reveal season, offering a feast of new titles to get us excited for Summer Games Fest week. Here's a full list of everything announced at PlayStation State of Play 2025, including 007 First Light, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, and the release date for Silent Hill f.
