Fan Art Depicting Far Cry's Extraction Shooter in Alaskan Setting

Insider Gaming reports Ubisoft has completely reworked its Far Cry universe extraction shooter set in Alaska. Originally codenamed Project Maverick as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7, the project underwent major revisions after internal evaluations. Though receiving positive internal feedback, Ubisoft management redirected resources toward Project Blackbird (Far Cry 7), with the final blow being the reassignment of technical staff.

The project now rests with Ubisoft Sherbrooke, known for development support work. Most of the original team has transitioned to the next Far Cry title.

According to insider Tom Henderson (December 2024 reporting), Far Cry 7 will plunge players into a desperate race against time. The narrative follows a protagonist whose family gets abducted by a shadowy cult performing grotesque hallucinogen experiments on both wildlife and children. Players face a 72-hour in-game deadline (24 real-time hours) to complete their rescue mission.

A key innovation involves the protagonist's wristwatch displaying a persistent countdown timer. This mechanic doesn't just amplify tension - it fundamentally reshapes decision-making by forcing players to balance preparation against the constant time pressure. The system promises meaningful consequences for time management choices throughout the campaign.
