Marvel's 'Avengers: Doomsday' Windsor Shoot Cost Millions

Reports indicate that Marvel Studios is paying King Charles millions to film scenes for 'Avengers: Doomsday' at Windsor Castle, the UK royal residence. Recently surfaced set photos even hint at the return of a surprising Marvel character.

Construction is underway within Windsor's parkland for several 'Avengers: Doomsday' sets. Planning documents submitted to the local council list one set as "Annie Reynolds' House." Since Annie is the mother of Bob Reynolds from Thunderbolts*/New Avengers, this suggests the film will feature childhood flashbacks exploring the origins of Sentry/The Void.

Now, according to The Irish Sun, a second set is named "Luke Cage's House"—a name not heard in the Marvel universe for years. The bulletproof hero from Harlem was last seen in the second and final season of his Netflix series, which shared a universe with shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Cage also appeared in the team-up series 'The Defenders' before Netflix canceled all its Marvel shows following the announcement of Disney+.

Marvel is famous for its secrecy, often using codenames for productions and filming crucial scenes—like the funeral in 'Avengers: Endgame'—without revealing details even to the actors. While this set name could be a decoy, fans are speculating why Luke Cage might be making a comeback.

Photos of the "Luke Cage's House" set show a classic, mustard-yellow American rural home. Although the setting doesn't resemble Harlem, fans note the color matches the signature shade associated with the character in his Netflix series.

In recent years, Marvel has started reintegrating characters from 'The Defenders' into the MCU. Charlie Cox's Daredevil has appeared in several projects ahead of the 'Daredevil: Born Again' reboot, and Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) is set to return in the show's next season. The Punisher, a spin-off character, is also getting a TV special and is rumored to appear alongside Tom Holland in 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day'.

The exact amount paid to King Charles for the use of Windsor's grounds remains undisclosed, though estimates place it in the millions. Crown Estates, which manages the land, often uses film revenue for upkeep and pays a quarter of its annual profits to the King.

Could King Charles make a cameo? It seems unlikely, as he is reportedly scheduled to be on holiday in Scotland at Balmoral during the August filming dates.
