Firaxis Games Delays Civilization 7's Inaugural In-Game Event

Civilization 7 Prioritizes Quality-of-Life Enhancements

Firaxis Games has announced a delay for Civilization 7's (Civ 7) first in-game event, prioritizing the implementation of much-needed quality-of-life improvements. In a February 28, 2025 development roadmap update, they outlined their plans for the next update.

Update 1.1.0, launching March 4, 2025, on PC and consoles (with a separate Nintendo Switch release), will notably omit the planned "Natural Wonder Battle" event. Firaxis explained, "Although our first in-game Event*, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."

Since its early access release, Civ 7 has received mixed reviews, with several features, particularly the UI, falling short of expectations. Firaxis acknowledges this feedback, stating, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI," and adding, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."

Update 1.1.0 Addresses Community Feedback

Update 1.1.0 directly addresses community concerns and suggestions. While full patch notes will be released upon launch, Firaxis has previewed key features:

• A new free natural wonder: the Bermuda Triangle.
• Significant UI improvements addressing player feedback.
• Substantial changes to the Modern Age's Cultural Legacy Path and Victory, enhancing AI performance in achieving Cultural Victories.

This update also marks the release of the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection. Firaxis clarifies, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."

Next Major Update Scheduled for March 25, 2025

Further UI enhancements are slated for the next major update on March 25, 2025 (subject to change). Firaxis emphasizes, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."

Beyond March, Civ 7's development roadmap includes features such as a "one more turn" option extending gameplay past the Modern Age, auto-explore functionality, new map sizes (excluding Switch), multiplayer improvements, and more.

Firaxis concludes, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
