Does Civilization 7 Have Cross-Play and Cross-Progression (Civ 7)?
Sid Meier's Civilization VII ushers in a new era for the iconic turn-based strategy series, available across major gaming platforms. This guide clarifies its cross-play and cross-progression features.
Cross-Play:
Civilization VII supports cross-play, but with limitations. Players need an active 2K account linked to their chosen platforms. Cross-play generally functions seamlessly across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, macOS, and Linux, offering standard map sizes and player counts.
However, Nintendo Switch players experience restrictions. The Switch version doesn't support standard or larger map sizes. Multiplayer player limits are also reduced: four players in Antiquity and Exploration Ages, and six in the Modern Age. These limitations apply to any cross-play session involving a Switch.
Cross-Progression:
Civilization VII's cross-progression is simpler. With an active 2K account, progress is synced across all linked platforms. This eliminates the need to restart on each platform. This feature, unlike in Civilization VI where it was a post-launch addition, is available from the game's release.
Civilization VII launches February 11th. Enjoy seamless progress across your devices, but be aware of the Switch's cross-play limitations.
