Two classic GBA racing games from the F-Zero franchise are speeding onto the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack!
F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend Join Switch Online
Launching October 11, 2024
Nintendo's announcement today brings the high-octane thrills of F-Zero: GP Legend and the previously Japan-exclusive F-Zero Climax to Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers on October 11th.
The F-Zero series, Nintendo's futuristic racing franchise, debuted in Japan over 30 years ago (1990) to critical acclaim. Its influence is undeniable, inspiring other racing titles like SEGA's Daytona USA. Known for pushing the boundaries of console technology, F-Zero games were renowned for their breakneck speed on SNES and beyond.
Like Mario Kart, F-Zero features intense races against opponents, navigating treacherous tracks and engaging in thrilling vehicle combat using "F-Zero machines." The series' iconic protagonist, Captain Falcon, even makes appearances in the Super Smash Bros. franchise.
F-Zero: GP Legend initially launched in Japan in 2003, followed by a worldwide release in 2004. F-Zero Climax, released in Japan in 2004, remained region-locked until now, marking a 19-year gap before the release of the Switch's F-Zero 99 last year. In a past interview, F-Zero designer Takaya Imamura cited Mario Kart's popularity as a contributing factor to the F-Zero series' long hiatus.
This October 2024 update to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack grants subscribers access to both F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend. Prepare for intense competition across Grand Prix, story modes, and various time trials.
