Gothic 1 Remake Demo Unveiled at Steam Next Fest with New Protagonist Niras

Alkimia Interactive, the development studio behind the highly anticipated Gothic 1 Remake, has granted select journalists early access to a brand-new demo of the game. Originally prepared for Gamescom 2024, this demo is now set to be released to the public in the near future, offering fans a firsthand look at the reimagined classic.

This demo acts as a narrative prelude to the main game, introducing players to Niras—a new protagonist and fellow prisoner who arrives in the Miners' Valley ahead of the iconic Nameless Hero. Through Niras’ journey, players will explore the oppressive world of the Colony, interact with its inhabitants, and experience the harsh realities of life behind the magical barrier, all while laying the groundwork for the game’s overarching story.

The demo, previously showcased exclusively at Gamescom, highlights the arrival of Niras and his initial encounters with the world’s brutal environment and its complex characters. Now, this experience will be available to a global audience, giving players the chance to step into a completely rebuilt version of the Gothic universe. Both the demo and the full game have been redeveloped from the ground up, featuring expanded content, deeper world-building, enhanced orc factions, and more immersive gameplay mechanics—offering a richer, more engaging experience than the original.

The Gothic 1 Remake demo will launch on Steam as part of the Steam Next Fest event. It will be free to download and play from the evening of February 24th until March 3rd. After this window closes, the demo will no longer be available.

The full version of Gothic 1 Remake is slated for release later this year, coming to PC via Steam and GOG, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
