Once Human: Surges to Peak of 230k Players
NetEase's post-apocalyptic survival game, Once Human, launched on PC with impressive initial results. Steam charts show a peak concurrent player count of 230,000, securing a top 7 spot in sales and a top 5 position in most-played games. However, this peak number raises some questions. The considerable difference between the peak player count and the initial 300,000 Steam wishlists suggests a potential player drop-off shortly after launch.
Despite this, NetEase plans to release the game on mobile in September, promising substantial updates including a PvP mode for the Mayflies and Rosetta factions, and a new PvE area in a northern mountain region. The game, set in a world ravaged by a catastrophic event, is one of NetEase's most anticipated titles.
Interestingly, the mobile release has been delayed, although the PC version maintains its strong position in sales and player count rankings. The significant 230,000 peak player count, while impressive, might not reflect the average concurrent player base, potentially signaling a concern for NetEase.
This PC foray marks a significant shift for NetEase, a company primarily known for mobile games. While Once Human boasts impressive graphics and gameplay, attracting a new PC player base might prove challenging.
