Nintendo Announces Switch 2 Direct Presentation
Nintendo has confirmed that the upcoming Switch 2 Nintendo Direct presentation will run for approximately 60 minutes.
This is a substantial length for a Nintendo Direct, indicating that Nintendo has a significant amount of content to cover during this highly anticipated showcase.
The Switch 2 Nintendo Direct is scheduled to begin on April 2, 2025, at 6:00 AM PDT / 9:00 AM EDT / 2:00 PM BST. Nintendo stated this presentation will provide a "closer look" at the Switch 2, following the console's brief initial reveal earlier this year.
That initial reveal showcased the Switch 2's form factor, offered a glimpse of what appears to be Mario Kart 9, and teased a potential 'mouse' mode for the new Joy-Con controllers.
However, several key questions about the Switch 2 remain unanswered. These include the function of the mysterious new Joy-Con 'C' button, the console's processing power, and the purpose of its new ports.
The Nintendo Direct is also expected to reveal the full launch lineup of games for the Switch 2, along with its official release date, which is anticipated to fall between June and September 2025. Fans are also hoping for an announcement regarding the Switch 2's price, with analysts predicting it will be around $400.
A clearer picture of the Switch 2's game library is beginning to emerge. There is a long list of rumored third-party titles coming to the platform. In an interview with IGN, Firaxis, the developer of Civilization 7, described the Switch 2's apparent Joy-Con mouse mode as "definitely intriguing." French video game publisher Nacon, known for titles like Greedfall 2 and RoboCop: Rogue City, has stated it has Switch 2 games ready for launch. The long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored to be targeting the Switch 2. Additionally, EA has commented that franchises like Madden, FC, and The Sims would be a great fit for the new console.
Last week's Nintendo Direct announcement of a new Virtual Game Cards feature for sharing games between systems also sparked discussion, particularly regarding the Nintendo Switch 2, due to a footnote on an official Nintendo webpage.
In related news, Nintendo confirmed a Nintendo Treehouse: Live | Nintendo Switch 2 presentation featuring hands-on gameplay of Switch 2 titles. This event is scheduled for April 3 and April 4, starting at 7:00 AM PT each day.
