Palworld developer Pocketpair is finalizing its highly anticipated cross-play update, slated for release in late March 2025. A recent X/Twitter post confirmed this update will enable multiplayer across all platforms and introduce world transfer for Pals. While specifics remain scarce beyond a promotional image depicting a Palworld battle, Pocketpair Communications Director and Publishing Manager John 'Bucky' Buckley hinted at "a few little surprises" included in the March update.

This news is a welcome addition for the 32 million players who have joined Palworld since its January 2024 early access launch. Pocketpair has outlined an extensive 2025 content roadmap, including the cross-play functionality, a concluding scenario, and further content additions for the popular creature-catching survival game.

Palworld's successful launch, priced at $30 on Steam and simultaneously available on Xbox and PC Game Pass, shattered sales and concurrent player records. Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe revealed that the game's initial success was so significant that the developer struggled to manage the resulting profits. Despite this, Pocketpair swiftly capitalized on Palworld's breakout success by forming a new business, Palworld Entertainment, in partnership with Sony, to expand the IP and bring the game to PS5.

Currently, Palworld faces a lawsuit from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, alleging infringement of multiple patent rights and seeking an injunction and damages. Pocketpair has responded by identifying the patents in question and adjusting the Pal summoning mechanic within the game. The developer has pledged to vigorously defend its position in court, stating, “We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings.”
