Pokemon recognized as the most influential entertainment brand in Japan in 2024

GEM Partners, a marketing agency, has released the results of a major survey examining brand reach across seven media platforms in Japan. Pokémon claimed the top spot, achieving a remarkable 65,578 points.

This ranking utilizes a proprietary "reach score," calculating the daily interactions with a brand's content across apps, games, music, videos, and manga. The survey, conducted monthly, sampled 100,000 individuals aged 15 to 69.

Pokémon's dominance was particularly pronounced in the App Games category, scoring 50,546 points—a staggering 80% of its total score. This success is largely attributed to the enduring popularity of Pokémon GO and the recent launch of DeNA's Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket. Further contributions came from Home Video (11,619 points) and Video (2,728 points). Strategic collaborations, such as the partnership with Mister Donut, and the rising popularity of collectible card games also fueled this widespread reach.

The Pokémon Company's 2024 financial report underscores this success, reporting sales of 297.58 billion yen and a gross profit of 152.23 billion yen. These figures solidify Pokémon's position as one of Japan's most successful and rapidly expanding brands.

The Pokémon franchise encompasses a diverse range of media, including video games, animated series and films, card games, and numerous other products. Jointly managed by Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures, Inc., the franchise is overseen by The Pokémon Company, established in 1998 to centralize brand management.
