Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase: Unveiling the Update
Closed Beta: March 13th - 19th, 2025
Ubisoft officially announced the Rainbow Six Siege X (R6 Siege X) Closed Beta, running from March 13th, 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM CET (immediately following the R6 Siege X Showcase), to March 19th, 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM CET.
Gain access by watching the R6 Siege X Showcase on the official Rainbow 6 Twitch channel or participating streamers' channels to earn Closed Beta Twitch drops. The beta, available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, will feature the new Dual Front game mode. Note that some players have experienced issues receiving beta access codes via email; Ubisoft Support is actively working to resolve this.
It's crucial to remember: R6 Siege X isn't a new game, but a massive update elevating Siege with significant graphical and technical improvements.
Dual Front: The New 6v6 Game Mode
Ubisoft's Dual Front mode delivers foundational upgrades, including visual enhancements, an audio overhaul, rappel improvements, and enhanced player protection systems. This new 6v6 mode, along with free access to the core experience, will introduce players to Rainbow Six Siege's tactical action.
The mode unfolds on the new District map, where two teams of six Operators clash, simultaneously attacking and defending sectors. This unique approach opens exciting possibilities for gadget combinations and strategic gameplay.
Classic Siege remains, now titled "Core Siege" in the main menu. This includes five modernized maps (Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe) boasting double texture resolution, optional 4K textures on PC, and improved destructible environments. Three additional maps will be modernized in future seasons.
Free Access Arrives: Year 10, Season 2
After a decade, Rainbow Six Siege goes free-to-play, aligning with industry trends. Game Director Alexander Karpazis explained to PC Gamer the goal of introducing the game to a wider audience, encouraging players to invite friends and experience what makes Siege unique.
Free access includes Unranked, Quick Play, and Dual Front. Ranked mode and the Siege Cup will remain exclusive to premium access holders, a decision made to maintain a balanced competitive environment and deter smurfing and cheating, as previously discussed by Leroy Athanassoff in a 2020 interview.
No Siege 2: Evolution, Not Revolution
Karpazis confirmed that a Siege 2 sequel was never considered. Instead, the team focused on evolving the existing game, building upon its success and community. Siege X, in development for three years alongside regular updates, represents a commitment to the next decade of Siege, respecting the community that built the game's legacy.
Rainbow Six Siege X launches June 10th, 2025, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for more updates!
