FromSoftware Addresses Elden Ring Nightreign Multiplayer Issues
FromSoftware has acknowledged matchmaking issues in Elden Ring Nightreign during its first weekend and provided guidance for affected players.
On May 31, FromSoftware addressed via Twitter players experiencing difficulties finding companions when starting expeditions in the multiplayer Elden Ring spin-off. The developer recommended restarting the matchmaking process as an initial step. While this may offer limited relief, it confirms the team is aware of the situation. "Thank you for your patience and understanding," the statement concluded.
Shortly after, FromSoftware posted another update specifically highlighting matchmaking problems on PlayStation consoles. Players on PS4 and PS5 encountering connectivity issues were advised to verify their NAT type. "NAT type 3 may impact matchmaking on PSN," the notice clarified.
To check your NAT type, follow these steps: Home > Settings > Network > Connection Status > Check Connection Status
No specific recommendations have been issued for Xbox platforms at this time.
Previously, producer Yasuhiro Kitao commented on social media regarding Elden Ring Nightreign's strong launch performance, noting it sold 2 million copies within its first day.
“Nightreign features distinctive design elements and differs in several ways from our recent titles,” Kitao stated. “Nevertheless, we are deeply grateful to see so many players courageously diving into this world.
“Similar to Demon's Souls or Sekiro, the initial experience may feel unfamiliar. However, Nightreign presents its own unique challenges and adventures. Once you push past the early learning curve, the game delivers a deeply personal sense of achievement.
“We sincerely hope you enjoy the journey.”

What specifically might this tweet refer to? Currently, Nightreign maintains a 'Mixed' user review rating on Steam. Critical feedback often cites its punishing solo experience, absence of two-player co-op, lack of voice chat, and other dated mechanics. The perennial multiplayer challenge of assembling a coordinated three-player team remains integral to the Elden Ring Nightreign experience. A patch aimed at improving solo gameplay balance is scheduled for release next week.
As highlighted in IGN's Elden Ring Nightreign review: "Let’s address the crucial disclaimer upfront: if you intend to play Nightreign entirely solo and do not consider yourself a dedicated Elden Ring enthusiast who embraces ways to amplify the base game's difficulty, this entry may not suit you. While a single-player mode exists technically, its balance is so problematic that I anticipate adjustments within the first month post-launch. This comes from someone deeply immersed in this genre."
