ReFantazio: Metaverse Game Poised for Series Expansion
Hashino, when discussing future projects, expressed a strong interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
Currently, there are no concrete plans to create a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel. However, Hashino emphasized his commitment to completing the current project. He revealed that the game was originally conceived as the third major JRPG series for Atlus, following Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, aiming to become a flagship title for the company.
While a direct sequel is unlikely, the team is already working on their next endeavor. An anime adaptation of Metaphor: ReFantazio is also under consideration. The game itself has been a remarkable success for Atlus, achieving the highest concurrent player count of any of their platform launches to date.
Metaphor: ReFantazio boasts a peak concurrent player count exceeding 85,961, surpassing the numbers achieved by Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). The game is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
