Resident Evil 4 Remake Passes Major Franchise Sales Milestone
Resident Evil 4 Remake Shatters Sales Records, Exceeding 9 Million Copies Sold
Capcom's recent remake of Resident Evil 4 has achieved phenomenal success, surpassing 9 million copies sold since its launch. This milestone follows the release of the Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition in February 2023 and a subsequent iOS release late last year, significantly boosting sales figures. The game's rapid ascent to this impressive sales number is unsurprising, given its recent achievement of 8 million copies sold.
The March 2023 release of the remake, a reimagining of the 2005 classic, puts players back in the role of Leon S. Kennedy as he confronts a sinister cult to rescue the President's daughter, Ashley Graham. This iteration marks a significant shift in gameplay, leaning more heavily into action mechanics than its survival horror predecessors.
CapcomDev1's official Twitter account celebrated the achievement with celebratory artwork depicting beloved characters like Ada, Krauser, Saddler, Salazar, and Bitores Mendez enjoying a game of bingo. A recent update further enhanced the experience for PS5 Pro players.
Resident Evil 4's Unstoppable Momentum
According to Alex Aniel, author of the fan book "Itchy, Tasty: An Unofficial History of Resident Evil," Resident Evil 4 has become the fastest-selling title in the franchise. This success is highlighted by a comparison to Resident Evil Village, which reached only 500,000 copies sold in its eighth quarter.
Anticipation Mounts for Future Capcom Releases
The overwhelming success of Resident Evil 4 and the series as a whole has ignited fervent speculation amongst fans regarding Capcom's next move. Many eagerly anticipate a remake of Resident Evil 5, a possibility that seems increasingly likely given the relatively short timeframe (just over a year) between the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. However, other entries in the franchise, such as Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, also hold significant narrative weight and could be prime candidates for a modern update. Of course, the announcement of Resident Evil 9 would undoubtedly be met with immense enthusiasm.
