Squid Game Star Hints Series May Not End After Season 3
Squid Game Season 3 is being heralded as the epic conclusion to the series, culminating in a final confrontation between Player 456 and the enigmatic Front Man. But does this truly mark the end of Netflix's global phenomenon? Could the Squid Game universe continue to expand in the future?
Earlier this month, series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk hinted that while Season 3 concludes his original story arc, there is potential for a spin-off exploring the "three-year gap between Season 1 and 2."
Now, actor Lee Byung-hun, who portrays the masked gamesmaster Front Man, has echoed this sentiment, suggesting the third season may not be the franchise's final chapter.
"Director Hwang keeps calling it a finale. However, when I first read the script, I felt it could be an ending, but also the beginning of something new," Byung-hun teased in an interview with The Gamer.
Is Byung-hun hinting that the deadly games could persist beyond the main series' narrative? Or perhaps that surviving characters have more story to tell? Fans have analyzed a Season 3 teaser that appeared to show a version of the Squid Games operating in a different location. This has led to speculation: could the South Korean games be just one branch of a vast, international Squid Game network—a concept ripe for exploration in a spin-off?
"This is just my personal view," Byung-hun remarked, "but with enough audience love and support, anything is possible."

For the moment, however, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has indicated a desire to step back, having faced immense stress—even losing teeth—while producing the show and filming its second and third seasons consecutively.
"This is the finale for the entire series. The whole story," Hwang stated. "It's time for a farewell."
But will Netflix concur? Given the show's record-breaking viewership, it's conceivable the streaming giant would seek to further capitalize on the Squid Game franchise. Ultimately, the future may depend heavily on the reception of Season 3, which premieres this week on June 27, 2025.
