Stardew Valley: A Complete Guide To Enchantments & Weapon Forging
This Stardew Valley guide delves into the Volcano Forge's enchantments and forging options, updated for version 1.6. Located at the end of Ginger Island's Volcano Dungeon, this forge lets you magically enhance tools and weapons using gemstones and crystals.
Obtaining Cinder Shards:
The forge requires Cinder Shards. These pink-orange crystals are obtained by:
- Mining Cinder Shard nodes (pictured above) in the Volcano Dungeon.
- As drops from Magma Sprites (50%), Magma Duggies (40%), Magma Sparkers (50%), and False Magma Caps (50%).
- From a fishing pond with 7+ Stingrays (7-9% daily chance of 2-5 shards).
Cinder Shards, unlike gemstones, cannot be replicated in the Crystalarium.
The Mini-Forge:
After achieving Combat Mastery, craft a Mini-Forge, replicating the Volcano Forge's functionality. The recipe requires:
- 5 Dragon Teeth
- 10 Iron Bars
- 10 Gold Bars
- 5 Iridium Bars
Weapon Forging:
Enhance weapons (up to three times) using gemstones and Cinder Shards (10, 15, then 20 shards per forge). Gemstone effects:
- Amethyst: +1 knockback per forge level.
- Aquamarine: +4.6% critical hit chance per level.
- Emerald: +2/+3/+2 speed per level (stacks).
- Jade: +10% critical hit damage per level.
- Ruby: +10% damage per level.
- Topaz: +1 defense per level.
Alternatively, a Diamond adds three random upgrades (costs 10 Cinder Shards).
Optimal Upgrades: For high DPS, prioritize Emerald and Ruby. For survivability, use Topaz and Amethyst.
Unforging: Place the weapon in the left slot and select the red X to remove all forging (recovering some shards, but not the gemstone).
Infinity Weapons:
Upgrade Galaxy Sword, Dagger, or Hammer into Infinity versions using three Galaxy Souls (20 Cinder Shards each per soul). Existing upgrades and enchantments are retained.
Galaxy Souls: Obtain from Mr. Qi (40 Qi Gems each), Big Slimes (Dangerous Mines/Quests), Island Trader (10 Radioactive Bars), or occasionally from Dangerous Monsters (after killing 50).
Enchantments:
Add random effects using a Prismatic Shard and 20 Cinder Shards. Re-enchant for a different effect.
Weapon Enchantments: Artful (halved special move cooldown), Bug Killer (double damage to bugs, kills Armored Bugs), Crusader (double damage to undead, permanently kills mummies), Vampiric (chance to regain health), Haymaker (double fiber/hay chance from weeds).
Innate Enchantments: Use a Dragon Tooth for additional enchantments, choosing one from each of two sets: (Slime Slayer, Crit Power, Attack, Speed) and (Slime Gatherer, Defense, Weight).
Tool Enchantments: Twelve enchantments, tool-specific. Examples include Auto-Hook (fishing rod), Bottomless (watering can), Efficient (various tools), and more. See the table in the original text for a complete list.
Best Tool Enchantments: Choose based on play style. Bottomless is generally best for watering cans. Shaving is a strong choice for axes. Generous and Reaching are often preferred for hoes and pans. Preserving is usually the most useful for fishing rods.
This comprehensive guide covers all aspects of the Volcano Forge, enabling players to optimize their tools and weapons for any Stardew Valley challenge.
