One of the joys of *Stardew Valley* farming is the adorable menagerie of animals you can keep. Beyond livestock, you can have multiple pets! Here's how to expand your furry (or scaly) family.

How To Unlock Multiple Pets in Stardew Valley

Starting Stardew Valley, you adopt a cat or dog. Initially, only one pet was allowed per save, but the 1.6 update (early 2024) changed that! To add more, you'll need to meet a few requirements.

First, maximize your current pet's friendship. Fill their water bowl daily (except on rainy/snowy days) and pet them once a day (look for the heart!). Check their friendship level in the "Animals" tab of your pause menu.

A full friendship meter triggers a mail from Marnie, offering additional pets. If you skipped the initial pet, Marnie will send this notice at the start of Year 2.

How To Adopt Multiple Pets in Stardew Valley

After receiving Marnie's mail, visit her shop (9 AM - 4 PM, closed Mondays and Tuesdays). Choose "Adopt Pets" from the menu. You'll see 12 pet licenses: five cat variations, five dog variations, and two turtles. Each license has a cost:

How To Get Supplies for Pets in Stardew Valley

Visit Robin's shop to build Pet Bowls (5,000g and 25 Hardwood each). These are essential; neglecting your pets will cause them to run away.

Marnie also sells optional doghouses and cat trees (decorative only).
