The Shape, famously known as Michael Myers, was the first licensed Killer introduced to Dead by Daylight. His terrifying presence is defined by his relentless pursuit and ability to stalk Survivors, increasing his ferocity as he zeroes in on his prey. This methodical approach to hunting makes The Shape a formidable force, capable of eliminating players one by one with chilling precision.

This guide is designed to help players maximize their effectiveness with The Shape, offering insights into the best builds and add-ons, including both teachable and non-teachable perks. Whether you're new to the game or a seasoned player, these strategies will enhance your gameplay with this iconic horror character.

Updated on January 13, 2025, by Siddarth Narasimman: Despite being considered one of the weaker Killers, Michael Myers remains a favorite among new players. Recent buffs introduced in Patch 8.4.0 have significantly improved his capabilities, making him a more viable option. With these enhancements, it's an opportune time to explore the most effective builds and add-ons for one of horror's most legendary figures.

The Shape: Best Non-Teachable Build (2025)

Playing The Shape without access to other Killers' perks can be challenging, yet rewarding. This build leverages Save the Best for Last to reduce chase times significantly, while Sloppy Butcher slows down the game by inflicting Mangled and Hemorrhage on Survivors. Bitter Murmur and Hex: No One Escapes Death provide crucial endgame advantages, allowing The Shape to swiftly eliminate any remaining Survivors without the need for extensive stalking.

  • Save the Best for Last (The Shape) – Gain a token for hitting a non-Obsession Survivor, up to eight tokens. Each token reduces basic attack cooldown by 4%, up to 32%. Hitting the Obsession removes two tokens.
  • Hex: No One Escapes Death (General Perk) – After the last generator is completed, all Survivors gain the Exposed status and a 4% Haste effect until the Hex Totem is cleansed.
  • Bitter Murmur (General Perk) – Reveals the auras of Survivors within 16 meters of a completed generator for 5 seconds. After the last generator, all Survivors' auras are revealed for 10 seconds.
  • Sloppy Butcher (General Perk) – Inflicts Mangled and Hemorrhage, slowing healing by 25% and causing healing regression if left unfinished.

The Shape: Best Build (2025)

This build is tailored to slow down generator progress while providing a strong start, crucial for The Shape who struggles with early game mobility. By focusing on territorial control over key generator areas, The Shape can effectively utilize Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance and Deadlock to disrupt Survivors' efforts. Lethal Pursuer helps in quickly locating and stalking Survivors, while Coup de Grâce enhances The Shape's ability to navigate challenging loops.

  • Lethal Pursuer (The Nemesis) – At the start of the match, see all Survivors' auras for nine seconds. All aura-reading effects last two seconds longer.
  • Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance (The Artist) – Start with four tokens. Hooking a different Survivor on a Scourge Hook consumes one token and causes the generator with the most progress to lose 25%.
  • Deadlock (The Cenobite) – When a generator is completed, the one with the most progress is blocked for 25 seconds, marked by a white aura.
  • Coup de Grâce (The Twins) – Gain two tokens per completed generator. Use one token to increase lunge attack distance by 80%.

The Shape: Best Add-Ons (2025)

Memorial Flower

At the common rarity, the Memorial Flower stands out as a top choice for The Shape. While not overly powerful, it boosts the stalking rate by 11%, which can be a valuable asset given The Shape's slow stalking pace.

Dead Rabbit

Though it might seem counterintuitive, the Dead Rabbit significantly reduces the Terror Radius by 25% in Evil Within II. However, it increases the Terror Radius in Evil Within III, making it essential to pair this add-on with perks like Monitor and Abuse to manage the increased alertness of Survivors.

J. Myers Memorial

Ranked as the second-best add-on, J. Myers Memorial grants a 25% increase to stalking gain rate. It's often used in conjunction with the Tombstone Piece to mitigate the time needed to reach Evil Within III.

Hair Bow

Enhancing The Shape's threat level during Evil Within III, the Hair Bow is a great choice. Combined with J. Myers Memorial, it allows for consistent pressure across the map with multiple Evil Within III activations.

Tombstone Piece

Considered the most powerful add-on for The Shape, the Tombstone Piece enables an instant kill on any Survivor upon reaching Evil Within III, functioning similarly to a Memento Mori. This add-on outshines the Ultra Rare Judith’s Tombstone by not imposing a speed debuff.

Lock Of Hair

Lock of Hair extends Evil Within III by 40 seconds and increases the stalking rate. While the Hair Bow is generally preferred, Lock of Hair is a strong alternative, particularly when used with Lethal Pursuer and J. Myers Memorial.

Fragrant Tuft of Hair

Despite reducing the stalking rate by 200%, Fragrant Tuft of Hair offers infinite Evil Within III, eliminating the need to manage power and allowing instant downs without prior stalking.
