Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to Support Cloud Saves
Nintendo has officially confirmed that the Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will indeed support cloud saves, much to the relief of fans who were initially concerned. As IGN previously reported, there was a disclaimer on Nintendo's website that suggested otherwise, stating: "Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature." This led to worries that some games, or at least this one, would not include the cloud save functionality that players had hoped for.
However, Nintendo has since updated the information on its website. While the page for Donkey Kong Bananza has removed all references to cloud saves, the disclaimer for Tears of the Kingdom has been revised to clarify: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch." This updated message reassures Switch 2 owners that they will be able to transfer their existing Switch 1 saves to the new console, although it won't be possible to transfer saves from the Switch 2 back to the original system, as noted by Eurogamer.
Similarly, the page for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition now includes the same message, indicating a consistent approach to save data transfers across these titles.
In other news, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 have begun, maintaining a price of $449.99. The response has been as enthusiastic as expected. For more details, you can check out IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
