Recent Windows 11 Update Disrupts Assassin's Creed Gameplay; Patches Released

A recent Windows 11 update (24H2) introduced compatibility problems for several Assassin's Creed titles. Fortunately, Ubisoft has swiftly addressed the issue for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla with dedicated patches. These updates are automatically delivered via Steam, resolving launch and functionality problems experienced by many players. Note that the Origins patch requires 230 MB of storage, while the Valhalla patch needs 500 MB.

However, the issue persists for some Ubisoft games, notably Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Players reporting problems with Odyssey should refrain from updating to Windows 11 24H2 until a dedicated patch becomes available. While previous Ubisoft hotfixes mitigated problems with titles like Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, some performance inconsistencies might remain.

The root cause of the incompatibility between the Windows 11 24H2 update and certain Ubisoft games remains unclear. This situation highlights a concerning oversight, as reports of game malfunctions surfaced five months before the official update rollout. Given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11, this unforeseen consequence is particularly troublesome. Thankfully, the majority of games appear unaffected.
