"Award-Winning Game Atuel Coming to Android Soon"
Matajuegos has exciting news for fans of innovative gaming: their surrealist documentary game, Atuel, is set to launch on PC and Android later this year. Eager players can already pre-register on the game's Steam page, with Google Play pre-registration expected to follow soon.
Originating from an Argentine indie co-op, Matajuegos first released Atuel on itch.io in September 2022. The game quickly caught the eye of the gaming community for its unique blend of documentary storytelling, experimental gameplay, and mesmerizing dreamlike visuals. Its acclaim continued as it won the 'Innovation in Experience Design Award' at IndieCade 2022, alongside numerous other awards, cementing its status as a groundbreaking documentary game. Atuel has also been featured at prestigious venues such as the Marché du Film at Cannes and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
Curious about what Atuel looks like? Take a peek at the trailer below.
So, What Do You Do in Atuel, the Documentary Game?
Atuel immerses players in the breathtaking Atuel River Valley in Argentina, a region both beautiful and impacted by climate change. Rather than a traditional game, Atuel offers an immersive experience where you transform into various animals and elements of the ecosystem, effectively becoming part of the landscape itself. One moment, you could be gliding through the skies; the next, you're embodying the river's flow.
The game weaves in real-life interviews with historians, biologists, geologists, and local residents, discussing the region's past, its current state, and the looming future shaped by climate change. Matajuegos worked closely with the international documentary team, The 12.01 Project, to craft these compelling narratives. The game's visuals, inspired by the Cuyo desert, offer an almost otherworldly experience.
While waiting for Android pre-registration to open, you can explore more on the Steam page or the official website. When Atuel arrives on mobile, it will feature localization in seven additional languages and full controller support.
