A Beloved Game Deserving a Modern Update
Bloodborne, a critically acclaimed 2015 RPG, enjoys enduring popularity. Many players eagerly anticipate revisiting Yharnam on current-gen consoles. While no official announcement exists, recent posts on FromSoftware and PlayStation Italia's Instagram accounts featuring Bloodborne imagery have reignited speculation.
On August 24th, FromSoftware shared three images showcasing the game's title and the "#bloodborne" hashtag. One depicted Djura, a hunter encountered in Old Yharnam. The others showcased the Hunter exploring Yharnam's core and the Charnel Lane graveyards.
While these posts might be simple nostalgia trips, dedicated Bloodborne fans on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) are meticulously analyzing every detail, searching for clues hinting at a remaster. The timing, especially considering a similar post from PlayStation Italia on August 17th, has only amplified the anticipation.
PlayStation Italia's post, translated, asked users to identify their favorite iconic Bloodborne locations. The comments section is filled with fervent pleas for a Yharnam return on PC or modern consoles.
The Hunt for a Modern Bloodborne Continues: Almost a Decade On
Initially released in 2015 exclusively for PS4, Bloodborne has cultivated a fiercely loyal fanbase, earning widespread critical acclaim and recognition as one of gaming's greats. Despite this, a sequel or remaster remains elusive.
The 2020 Demon's Souls remake, a title originally launched in 2009, serves as a potential precedent for Bloodborne's revival. However, this hope is tempered by concerns about the potential wait. Demon's Souls' remake took over a decade, leading to fears that Bloodborne might face a similar lengthy delay. As the game approaches its tenth anniversary, the anticipation is palpable.
In a February interview with Eurogamer, Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki acknowledged the advantages of remastering the game for modern hardware, stating that improved accessibility for a wider audience is a key benefit.
Miyazaki's comments offer a beacon of hope, but the final decision rests not with FromSoftware. Unlike Elden Ring, which FromSoftware fully publishes, Bloodborne's rights are held by Sony. Miyazaki has previously stated that he is unable to comment directly on the possibility of a Bloodborne remaster due to this.
Bloodborne's passionate community continues to hope for a remaster. Despite its success, Sony hasn't expanded its availability beyond the PS4. Whether the current speculation translates into reality remains to be seen.
