Critical Nvidia Warning: RTX 5090 and 5080 Stock Deficit Looms for Gamers

Author : Ryan Update : Feb 22,2025

The highly anticipated Nvidia RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 graphics cards are set to launch on January 30th. However, concerns about significant shortages are mounting, fueled by reports from retailers and manufacturers.

Potential buyers are already lining up outside stores, highlighting the immense demand for these cards, despite their hefty price tags of $1,999 and $999 respectively.

MSI, a major manufacturer, attributes the initial scarcity to the Lunar New Year, impacting the first shipment of cards. They anticipate stock levels to improve throughout February.

Several retailers have echoed these concerns, with some reporting extremely limited initial allocations of the RTX 5090. One retailer even described the RTX 5090 launch as having "the worst availability".

In response to the growing anxiety, Nvidia issued a statement acknowledging the anticipated high demand and the possibility of stock-outs. They assured consumers that they and their partners are actively working to increase retail supply.

Despite Nvidia's statement, the fear of limited stock has already attracted scalpers. Pre-sale listings on eBay are showing inflated prices, with one Asus ROG Astral RTX 5090 listed for a staggering $5,750 – a massive markup of 187% over the MSRP.

Adding to Nvidia's challenges, their share price experienced a significant drop following the announcement of a new Chinese AI model, DeepSeek, which poses a potential threat to Nvidia's datacenter GPU sales.
