Jagex, the game's developer, revealed that Dragonwilds is now accessible for early access on Steam. This comes just a few weeks after the game's first trailer was released, leaving fans astonished. The game was available for wishlisting on Steam as of April 1, with its first gameplay teaser unveiled on April 2. Although the game was first hinted at in 2022, it wasn't until late 2024 that Jagex opened signups for alpha testing of a "new survival game set in the RuneScape universe." The game's official reveal as RuneScape: Dragonwilds occurred on March 31, 2025.

Estimated Official Release Date in Early 2026

Jagex estimates that Dragonwilds will see its official release in early 2026. The developers are committed to ensuring a comprehensive and enjoyable experience, as stated, "We want to spend the time to get everything right to make sure that our players get a complete, satisfying experience that you’ll want to revisit with friends again and again."

Jesse America, Jagex's Executive Producer, emphasized that Dragonwilds offers a fresh take on the RuneScape experience, designed for both dedicated fans and newcomers. He noted, "Throughout Early Access, we’ll be updating the game regularly with new content and features, while listening closely to the community to deliver an iconic open world survival crafting game that is loved equally by our biggest RuneScape fans and new players alike."

Early Access Roadmap Revealed

Jagex has shared the early access roadmap for Dragonwilds, outlining the exciting updates players can look forward to. A highlight is the introduction of the new region, Fellhollow, a mystical land caught between life and death. Governed by the soul-eater dragon Imaru, this region is influenced by the wild anima of Ashenfall and the cursed energy of the Underworld. Players will be joined by the iconic RuneScape character Death, exploring new quests, lore, gear, and music, alongside new skills in magic, ranged combat, and farming.

The game will also introduce new enemy types such as Lesser Dragons, along with dragon slayer gear, a hardcore mode, and a creative mode. While specific release dates for these updates are not set, Jagex assures players of continuous enhancements throughout the early access period.
