Eggers Directing Labyrinth Sequel
Robert Eggers, fresh off his critically acclaimed gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to direct a sequel to the beloved fantasy classic, Labyrinth. Variety reports that Eggers will write and direct, collaborating with his The Northman co-writer Sjón. This new sequel replaces a previously announced project with director Scott Derrickson, which had stalled since 2023. TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have opted to move forward with Eggers' vision.
The original 1986 *Labyrinth*, starring David Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth and Jennifer Connelly, follows a young woman's journey into a fantastical world to rescue her kidnapped baby brother, aided by a cast of Jim Henson puppets.Eggers' plate is full, however. He's also directing a werewolf movie titled Werwulf, aiming for a Christmas 2026 release. Details are scarce, but the film is set in 13th-century England, featuring dialogue in Old English. One can safely assume werewolf transformations will be involved.
Eggers' Nosferatu, a remake of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film, was released last Christmas. Set in 19th-century Germany, the film follows a real estate agent whose dealings with a Transylvanian count unleash vampiric horrors upon him and his wife.
