The curtains have fallen on Evil Dead: The Game, an asymmetric multiplayer title inspired by the iconic action horror franchise, as its publisher, Saber Interactive, has begun the process of removing it from digital storefronts. Launched in 2022 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, the game received an impressive 8/10 from IGN, with our review praising its thrilling cat-and-mouse gameplay, despite its rough edges—a fitting homage to the horror/comedy films that inspired it.

Despite the release of a Game of the Year Edition in the following year, the game struggled to maintain player interest. The cancellation of the Nintendo Switch version in September 2023, coupled with the halt in content development, signaled early troubles. Now, three years post-launch, Evil Dead: The Game is no longer available for purchase. However, existing owners can breathe a sigh of relief as the game's servers will remain operational, allowing them to continue enjoying the game.

Saber Interactive confirmed this move in a statement on the game's Steam page:

We can confirm we've begun the process of removing the game from digital storefronts. Anyone who has purchased the game will still be able to play it as we plan to keep our servers online for everyone.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to our community, to those who have been part of the game from the very beginning, and those who have recently joined us. We appreciate all of your support.

The decision has not been well-received by all, with numerous negative reviews on the game's Steam page expressing frustration over the game's removal from sale. Many players feel that this marks the end of Evil Dead: The Game, contributing to its 'mixed' user review rating. Amidst the disappointment, one positive review from a dedicated player with over 380 hours in-game poignantly stated, "The end is nigh... It was fun while it lasted, lads. I mean that."

Saber Interactive, the developer behind last year's hit Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, is not slowing down. The studio is currently working on a range of exciting licensed movie games, including John Carpenter's Toxic Commando, Jurassic Park Survival, and an untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender game. Fans of Saber's work can also look forward to Turok: Origins and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3.
